Absence Policy:
Students have as many days as they are absent to complete assignments.
If absent from Reading Class, students can read an extra 20 minutes at home for each day absent to receive participation credit. This is in addition to the 100 minutes assigned each week for homework. Just place the additional reading info on a separate line on the home log.
Consequences for infractions in the classroom:
1st offense Warning
2nd offense Teacher/student conference
3rd offense Parent/teacher conference
4th offense Administration
Late Work
Students receive 80% credit for being 1 day late, 60% credit for 2 days late, and 0% credit after that.
Extra Materials
There are assignments in IXL for students. These are not graded. These assignments are added as a refresher or as additional help for materials being covered in class that will be graded.
8th grade students need to have the novel The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by Jan. 5, 2022
Assessment:
• Assessment of understanding of literature is done primarily through essays
• Grammar and Vocab quizzes
• Knowledge of literary terms is tested
• Students are expected to be active participants in discussions
• Students will complete reading logs to help with self-assessment of reading
• Peer Edits
